between or among?
You use ‘between’ for a specific location.
I sit between Peter and John.
The path runs between an avenue of pine trees.
‘Among’ is used when the location is general.
My desk is among several others.
I love to get out to the park and walk among the
trees.
You use ‘between’ when you specify who or which.
I can chose between Sydney University, UTS or
Macquarie.
There is an agreement between Peter, John and
Mary.
But when you generalize, you say ‘among’.
I can chose among several universities.
There is an agreement among staff.
